Vaišniūnai Campsite lies near Vaišniūnai village on the northern shore of Lake Dringis, in Aukštaitija National Park. The spacious woodland grounds suit a family, cyclist, group of friends, or a larger day gathering by the water.

Ignalina District Municipality gives the precise campsite coordinate as 55.383113, 26.081912. It marks this particular 3.5-hectare northern-shore site rather than the centre of Lake Dringis; other access points may not have piers, fire pits, or toilets.

This is self-sufficient recreation: visitors can sit in a shelter, reach the lake, pitch a tent, and use a designated fire pit. Electricity, a shower, a drinking-water tap, and food service are not confirmed.

Spacious facilities for families and groups

The facility inventory updated in May 2026 describes roughly 3.5 hectares with four shelters, 31 tables, 61 benches, 14 fire pits, four outdoor toilets, three piers, six bins, a changing cabin, two information boards, a plan, and a direction sign. It is a published inventory rather than a guarantee of each item's condition on arrival.

Exact-site photographs show several open timber shelters under different low roofs, widely spaced tables, and stone-ringed fire pits. A straight metal-grid pier with handrails and side platforms extends through reeds into Lake Dringis.

Football, basketball, volleyball, and children's play areas are also listed. Part of the equipment and the lake access are described as adapted for people with reduced mobility, but check the present surface and pier condition before travelling.

Free campsite for tents and campfires

The official Aukštaitija National Park page states that Vaišniūnai Campsite is free and allows tents and campfires. The municipality says State Forest Enterprise campsites cannot be reserved or charge for use, so a particular shelter, table, or tent pitch is not guaranteed.

Bring a tent, sleeping bag, food, drinking water, light, first-aid supplies, and rubbish bags for an overnight stay. The shelter and outdoor toilet are basic infrastructure, not full-service campground facilities.

Make fires only in designated pits, never cut live trees for fuel, and put the fire completely out before leaving. During drought or high fire danger, follow additional park instructions.

Lake Dringis and a full-day route

VLE gives Lake Dringis an area of 713.1 hectares, a length of 4.5 km, a maximum width of 3 km, and a maximum depth of 24 m. The lake has five islands and a deeply indented shore, with Vaišniūnai on its northern side; broad water and wooded banks define the campsite setting.

Three piers provide water access, and one shown in the exact photographs has metal-grid decking, handrails, and side platforms. This is not a supervised beach, so assess wind, water temperature, reeds, and the structure before swimming or paddling.

Vaišniūnai Campsite can form part of a wider Aukštaitija National Park route with Gaveikėnai and Linkmeno campsites, Ginučiai Watermill, the hillforts, and Ladakalnis. One trip can therefore include different lake, forest, and cultural-heritage experiences.

For a bicycle, group, or family visit, the spacious grounds and sports areas provide more options but do not separate visitors from other groups. Keep noise down, do not occupy shared equipment with stored belongings, and leave paths and access routes clear.

Access and safe visiting

Reach Vaišniūnai Campsite on park roads; the final surface may be a forest road. The local inventory describes a vehicle area across the designated grounds, but follow current signs, protect the forest floor, and do not block access for emergency or forestry services.

Allow two to four hours for a day stop if you want to use a shelter, reach a pier, let children play, and leave the fire-pit area tidy. A tent stay or longer time on the water deserves a full day and supplies brought in advance.

In Aukštaitija National Park, camp and make fires only at designated facilities. Stay on permitted roads, leave no waste, do not damage the shore, avoid noise, and control animals so they do not disturb wildlife.
