Gaveikėnai Campsite lies on the eastern shore of Lake Dringis, in Aukštaitija National Park. The woodland clearing by the water suits a quiet day stop, an overnight tent stay, and a route through the Gaveikėnai and Ginučiai area.
Ignalina District Municipality gives the precise campsite coordinate as 55.355475, 26.103221. It marks this recreation site on the eastern shore rather than the centre of Lake Dringis; other lake access points do not necessarily have the same facilities.
This place is for visitors who want simple recreation among pines and water. Electricity, a shower, drinking-water supply, and food service are not confirmed, so treat it as a self-sufficient outdoor site.
A shelter, pier, and fire-pit facilities
The facility inventory updated in May 2026 lists 17 tables, 33 benches, one shelter, nine fire pits, three outdoor toilets, one pier, four bins, one changing cabin, one information board, and three direction signs. It is a published inventory rather than a guarantee that every item will be usable on the day of a visit.
Exact-site photographs show a flat, spacious pine grove with widely spaced tables and fire sites and a deep, dark timber shelter under a low multi-sided roof. A plain straight pier leads into open Lake Dringis, with reed beds on either side.
The site is maintained by the Ignalina regional division of the State Forest Enterprise. That does not mean every facility operates year-round, so keep a backup plan if a seasonal toilet, pier, or other item is temporarily unavailable.
A free place for tents and campfires
The official Aukštaitija National Park page states that tents and fires are allowed at Gaveikėnai Campsite, and that the site is free. The municipality says State Forest Enterprise campsites cannot be reserved or charge for use, so no shelter, table, or pitch is guaranteed.
For an overnight stay, bring a tent, sleeping bag, food, drinking water, lighting, a first-aid kit, and rubbish bags. Outdoor facilities make a stay possible but do not replace the sanitary and food services of a commercial campground.
Use only the marked fire pits, do not disturb the forest floor, and cover and check the embers before leaving. During drought or high fire danger, follow additional park instructions.
The Dringis shore is suited to quiet water recreation
VLE gives Lake Dringis an area of 713.1 hectares, a length of 4.5 km, a maximum width of 3 km, and a maximum depth of 24 m. The lake has five islands and a deeply indented shore, while its eastern shore is pine-covered; the broad water horizon and pine clearing define Gaveikėnai's landscape.
Different sentences in the local description updated in 2026 give the campsite area as roughly 1 hectare and roughly 1.3 hectares; the larger figure accompanies suitability for small events or groups of up to 100. Treat the difference as an approximate site description, not a cadastral measurement or promise of space.
If you travel by canoe or boat, plan your launch and landing points and wear a life jacket. A pier provides visitor access to the water, but does not guarantee that every craft or unsupervised trip is suitable in all conditions.
Access and responsible visiting
Reach Gaveikėnai Campsite on the roads through Aukštaitija National Park; the final approach may have a forest surface. The local description says vehicles can be parked within the site, but follow current signs, protect the forest floor, and keep access clear when you arrive.
Allow two to four hours for a day stop if you want to sit in the shelter, reach the pier, walk the shore, and leave the fire-pit area tidy. A tent stay or paddle deserves a full day and supplies brought in advance.
In the park, camp and make fires only at designated sites. Stay on permitted roads, leave no waste, do not damage the shore, keep noise down, and control animals so they do not disturb visitors or wildlife.
