Alaušas Lake Beach: the official Utena District bathing site on Alaušas's sandy shore

This is the Sudeikiai beach, not the whole Lake Alaušas shore

Alaušas Lake Beach is in Sudeikiai, Utena District Municipality, on the Aukštaičių Street side of Lake Alaušas. Its official name in the municipality's list is “Paplūdimys prie Alaušo ežero”, while some maps use the English label “Alausas Lake Beach”. This is the specific beach, not the generic Lake Alaušas entry.

The coordinate 55.5856739, 25.6851329 marks the specific beach site in Sudeikiai. It is not the coordinate of the whole 1,054-hectare lake and should not be used to navigate to a different shore section.

The beach has a clearer purpose than a wild shore: people come to swim, rest by the water, and make a short visit. One official site still does not mean that every nearby clearing, jetty, or bank section belongs to the beach.

Shallow water and sand define the place

At Alaušas Beach, the shore shows a broad shallow-water zone, sandy bed, and reed belt. Water can look clear, but bed depth and slipperiness change, so children and non-swimmers need close adult supervision.

VLE describes Lake Alaušas as a 1,054-hectare lake with two islands, a maximum depth of 42 metres, an average depth of 11.9 metres, broad sandy shallows, and a continuous belt of vegetation. These whole-lake facts explain the landscape but cannot replace local signs or the bathing site's safety information.

The beach suits a short stop for water and an open view, but it is not an untouched wilderness shore. Swim within the beach zone, stay out of reed beds, and do not paddle farther simply because the water is shallow at the edge.

The 2026 water test met hygiene requirements

Utena District Municipality reports that 32 bathing-water tests were taken around the district on 22 June 2026, and the results met the applicable hygiene requirements. Its list explicitly includes Alaušas Lake Beach in Sudeikiai.

That is the result for a specific sampling date, not a promise for the entire season. After heavy rain, intense heat, visible algal bloom, or a local warning, conditions may differ. Check the latest municipal information and on-site notices before swimming.

A water test also does not answer every practical question: it does not confirm lifeguard cover, full parking availability, or safe paddling beyond the beach boundary. Read the hygiene result together with weather, wind, crowds, and supervision needs.

Boating rules matter even beside a bathing site

The Environmental Protection Department's Alaušas guidance says self-propelled craft may not operate within 200 metres of the lake shore or the shores of its islands. Personal watercraft powered by an internal-combustion engine with a water-jet pump are prohibited on the lake.

Non-motorised craft and electric motors are allowed throughout the boating season, while more powerful craft have additional conditions. A beach is not confirmation of a boat-launch point: launch only from a lawful designated place and keep clear of swimmers.

Do not drive to the water or leave a car on grass where it is not intended for parking. Do not use private jetties, respect the beach boundary, keep children within sight, and take litter away.

Pair the Sudeikiai beach with a Lake Alaušas route

A beach visit can continue in Sudeikiai or at Bikuškis Manor on the western shore of Lake Alaušas. They are not the same site: the manor is a heritage and park stop, while the Sudeikiai place is the official bathing site.

Allow 1-3 hours for swimming and rest. On summer weekends, arrive earlier for a calmer visit, bring water and sun protection, and before leaving check that you have taken all belongings and rubbish and that the car is parked lawfully.
