Akmena Beach is a specific Trakai bathing site
Lake Akmena Beach is at Karaimų St. 102 in Trakai, beside one of the town's lakes. It is a specific public beach and bathing site, not the whole Lake Akmena shoreline. The Institute of Hygiene bathing-site profile gives 54.6632, 24.9094 for its monitored-water point in the beach zone, rather than merely a street point or the centre of the entire lake.
The beach fits naturally into a day around Trakai, but swimming plans are best kept separate from a castle visit. The shore can be busier on a hot weekend, and public-space conditions depend on the season and maintenance.
Green grass, sand, and a wooded horizon
The shore is mainly a broad maintained lawn leading to a narrower strip of sand and small pebbles. The Institute of Hygiene's 2024 profile records a 300-metre beach, a natural shore, and a bathing area that deepens gradually. Scattered trees provide some shade, while woodland beyond the beach frames the lake view.
Benches, rubbish bins, and simple paths support a day at the beach. Seasonal facilities may include changing cabins, toilets, a foot-washing point, snack sales, and sports areas, but services and equipment can vary by day and season.
Protect the lawn and shore: do not drive to the water, light fires outside designated places, or leave rubbish behind. The open shore is attractive for children, which also means bringing shade and sun protection on hot days.
Treat bathing water as date-specific information
Lake Akmena Beach has designated beach status, and its bathing site is included in Trakai District's water-quality monitoring. On 9 July 2026, the municipality reported that a Lake Akmena sample taken on 7 July met the HN 92:2018 bathing assessment. That result belongs to a specific date, so it does not replace a newer notice or the signs at the beach on another day.
Before entering the water, check the shore information, weather, and the lake itself. Postpone swimming after heavy rain, when you see signs of an algal bloom, if the water smells unusual, or when a ban is posted. Children need continuous supervision at the water.
Do not jump from a small pier or raised edge without knowing the depth and bottom. The lake may look calm, but depth, stones, and uneven ground are not identical across the bathing area.
Beach facilities are seasonal
A day at Akmena Beach can combine swimming, sunbathing, a short walk, and simple sport. In 2025, the municipality said that robotic mowers were being used to maintain public lawns in Trakai, including at Lake Akmena Beach. This helps explain the maintained lawn but does not guarantee that a particular facility or machine will be running on the day.
Changing, hygiene, food, and sports services are generally associated with the bathing season. Do not make them essential to the trip: bring drinking water, a towel, sun protection, and a backup plan for poor weather.
Arrival and behaviour by the water
Use Karaimų St. 102 as the arrival reference. A city bus from Trakai Bus Station runs towards the beach, with the stop described near the beach and car park at the turn towards Užutrakis. Routes, fares, and timetables can change, so check them on the day of travel.
Leave a car only in a designated place and keep rescue and maintenance access clear. Parking and pet conditions can change with the season, so follow the latest signs and rules at the site.
A beach day can continue on Karaimų Street, by Lake Galvė, or in Trakai Historical National Park. Castle tickets, town parking, and beach bathing rules are separate matters and should not be treated as one set of conditions.
