Valakampiai I Beach, Valakupiai Beach I, Valakampiai 1st Beach
Valakampiai I is the large Neris beach
Valakampiai Beach I lies on the Neris on the Antakalnis side, among the Valakampiai pine woods. The exact Grinda map point is 54.7424645, 25.2549471. In navigation, select the specific beach listing rather than searching only for the Valakampiai district.
This is the first of the two Valakampiai beaches. Valakampiai II is a separate, quieter site, while the nudist beach beyond it is not the subject of this page. The identity of Beach I is clearest in its large active-recreation area, six volleyball courts, and pontoon pier.
Valakampiai I is a popular city beach, so parking and recreation space can fill quickly on a hot weekend. Check official city and Grinda channels for current water quality, lifeguard cover, and seasonal services before travelling.
Six volleyball courts make this an active day out
Grinda lists six beach-volleyball courts, beach football and basketball courts, and a children's playground at Valakampiai Beach I. This is one of the Vilnius beaches worth visiting with a sport or play plan as well as a towel. Courts may be busy on hot days, so larger groups should have a fallback activity.
The facilities also include a pontoon pier, changing cabins, showers, drinking fountains, bicycle stands, a barbecue area with grills, tables, and benches, and a free self-cleaning public toilet. Grinda also identifies a path for people with reduced mobility and an adapted part of the barbecue area.
The pontoon and court surfaces are seasonal outdoor infrastructure. Water level, ice, heavy use, and repairs can change individual conditions, so follow barriers and STOP signs. Keep sports bags and bicycles off the rescue access and adapted path.
A Blue Flag does not replace local rules
The current Grinda beach page identifies Valakampiai Beach I as a Blue Flag beach. This international environmental and service-quality award relates to water quality, safety, information, and environmental criteria, but it applies to a particular season and does not replace careful behaviour beside a river.
The path identified by Grinda for visitors with reduced mobility is a specific access measure. The entire route from the bus stop or car park to every facility is not described as continuously step-free, and sand, grass, and riverbank slopes can be challenging. Confirm individual conditions before travelling.
The barbecue areas are shared, so belongings should not be used to reserve them. Use only the provided grills, never light a fire in the pine woods, and remove rubbish after a picnic. Do not leave food beside the Neris where it attracts birds or other animals.
Swimming in the Neris requires care
The Vilnius public-beach standard defines the bathing season as 1 June to 15 September unless the municipality sets another period. Rescue posts are expected to have daily lifeguard duty from 8 am to 8 pm during the bathing season, with possible extension on hot days in June and July. Check the day's signs, flags, and lifeguard instructions before entering the water.
The Neris is a flowing river, so current, water level, river bed, and temperature can differ from those of a calm lake. Swim only inside the buoy-marked area, do not go beyond it, and do not take sports equipment into the water. Keep children within reach; anyone swimming farther from shore should use a life jacket.
Never jump from the pier because underwater obstacles cannot be seen from above. Leave the water during thunder or strong wind, and obey a no-swimming flag. A Blue Flag does not remove the changing conditions of a river or the need for personal care.
How to arrive and continue along the Neris
Grinda names the 1-asis paplūdimys stop as the nearest public-transport stop. The beach is reachable by public transport, bicycle, on foot, or car; its official page gives roughly 7 kilometres or 15 minutes from central Vilnius as an orientation. Travel time is not guaranteed, and parking can fill quickly on hot days.
An improved pedestrian path connects Valakampiai I and II, so one day can combine the larger sports area with the quieter second shore. This is not permission to enter technical zones or cross barriers; check temporary diversions and surface conditions on site.
One to two hours is enough for a swim, while sport, showers, a picnic, and a walk call for 2-5 hours. Leave the car only in a marked car park, use bicycle stands, and leave the sand and barbecue area clean when you go.
