Lake Tapeliai, Tapeliai, Tapelių ežeras, Tapeliai bathing beaches
Lake Tapeliai is a clearly identified Vilnius water body
An Environment Ministry document identifies Lake Tapeliai by code 12030090, gives its area as 13.0 hectares, and places it in Vilnius City Municipality. This is an official basis for identity and scale, but the older fishing document does not replace today's site rules or beach conditions.
The coordinate 54.77437290, 25.44667170 supplied on this page marks the lake and may not be the entrance to either beach.
Tapeliai is not one beach point. Grinda lists Tapeliai Beach I and Tapeliai Beach II separately, so choose a specific bathing beach based on the facilities you want rather than stopping at any natural shore.
The lake lies in Tapeliai Landscape Reserve
Vilnius environmental information says that Tapeliai Landscape Reserve was established to preserve part of the lake-rich Antavilis glacial tunnel valley that stands out on the plain of the Neris old valley. This is a post-glacial landscape whose value extends beyond sand and swimming.
Reserve boundaries mean that visitors should stay on existing roads and paths and avoid damaging slopes or shores. Do not drive into the woods on unmarked tracks, create new descents to the water, or leave rubbish beyond the managed beach areas.
A public view of Lake Tapeliai shows a sandy shore, a low forest horizon, and tall pines and birches. It conveys the atmosphere, but it cannot describe the whole shoreline: other areas may have roots, reeds, wet grass, or a steeper descent.
The two beaches serve different purposes
The Vilnius bathing-water page lists Tapeliai among the city's officially monitored bathing waters, with two bathing beaches at the lake. Grinda describes Tapeliai I as a place for a quick dip, with paid parking nearby, an easy descent from the road, a changing cabin, bicycle stands, and a barbecue area.
Tapeliai II is aimed at a longer break and barbecuing. Its description lists two piers, one adapted for fishing by visitors with reduced mobility, an accessible descent path, a large barbecue area, changing cabins, toilets, bicycle stands, and outdoor exercise equipment.
Grinda lists the Tapelių ežeras public-transport stop for both beaches. Parking is paid at Beach I and free at Beach II according to the current description, but local signs and parking rules can change. Use marked spaces only.
A shore trail is not a paved promenade
Grinda's Tapeliai I description lists a trail around the lake for walking and hikes. It lets visitors extend a day beyond the beach sand, but the source does not promise a uniform width, hard surface, or lighting around the entire loop.
The woodland trail depends on the season: after rain it may have mud and slippery roots, in summer soft sand, and in autumn leaves and puddles. Wear shoes with good grip, follow the existing signs, and assess the distance before setting out with a small child or pushchair.
If you only want a swim, choose Tapeliai I. If you want to combine a walk, barbecue, and longer stay, Tapeliai II may be more practical. Both are by the same lake, but the visitor experience is not identical.
Water quality is tested during the bathing season
Vilnius environmental information says that chemical and bacteriological bathing-water indicators are assessed during the season, with tests every two weeks. Tests continued at Tapeliai I and II in 2025, and most city bathing-water results met the hygiene-standard requirements. That is a seasonal historical summary, not a promise about a sample taken today.
Before swimming, check the latest municipal notices, flags, and on-site warnings. After heavy rain, or if you see an unusual bloom, smell, or pollution, stay out even if an earlier test was suitable.
Open-water safety is not only about bacterial indicators. Do not jump from piers, keep children within reach, and leave the water and timber structures during thunderstorms.
Fishing at Lake Tapeliai has separate conditions
The Environment Ministry document dated 22 February 2019 sets regulated-fishing measures and conditions for Lake Tapeliai. It says fishing is allowed with a regulated-fishing permit or a free fishing right, and that a permit holder may catch no more than one pike of at least 50 centimetres per day.
The same document says that caught carp must be released immediately, live fish may not be used as bait, and fishing from watercraft is restricted at certain times. Because the document dates from 2019, check the current rules and permit information before fishing instead of relying only on an old copy.
Bathing, fishing, and the reserve share one shoreline. Keep fishing equipment outside the swimming area, do not obstruct other visitors, and handle released fish in a way that protects their welfare.
