Former scythe factory, Dūmų Fabrikas 5, Dūmų Brewery venue
An industrial building turned living cultural space
Dūmų Fabrikas is located on Dūmų Street in Naujoji Vilnia, in a historic former scythe-factory building. Events, meetings, and cultural programmes now take place here, while the surviving industrial volume, masonry, and large former production rooms shape the atmosphere.
This is an event and cultural space rather than a museum with a permanent exhibition and daily visiting hours. Visitors usually enter for a particular event or Dūmų Brewery activity, so check the programme before travelling; individual rooms may be closed between events.
The 1882 scythe-factory layer
The factory's history is linked with 1882, when a scythe manufacturer operated in Naujoji Vilnia. The owners Wyszwianski and Szereszewski are associated with the site, while the later complex is linked with the German company E. Possehl and an international trade in metal goods.
The Dūmų Fabrikas history presents the place as once the world's largest scythe factory. The present building is one part of the complex; the Heritage Register records individual buildings and their valuable features.
A high hall with an industrial character
The former factory's architecture matters beyond its age. The event hall has a large volume, tall structures, and an open industrial mood unlike a standard conference room. Old masonry, metal details, and daylight allow the building to be experienced as an industrial landscape.
Public venue descriptions give about 1,200 square metres in total, around 750 square metres for events, and a height of up to 12 metres. These figures describe the venue's scale; the event programme determines which rooms are open.
Dūmų Brewery and a new life for the building
Dūmų Brewery began in 2015 in Sakiškės village with home-brewing experiments, and production moved into the historic Dūmų factory building in Vilnius in 2020. Beer, the building's history, and event culture now form one place identity, even though production and visitor programmes may be organised separately.
Dūmų Brewery lists visiting hours of 17:00-23:00 on Wednesday and Thursday, 17:00-23:00 on Friday, and 12:00-23:00 on Saturday. This is the brewery's schedule; access to the whole factory or a particular event can differ, so check it before travelling.
Planning a visit in Naujoji Vilnia
Choose Dūmų Fabrikas when you have a particular event, meeting, or published brewery visiting opportunity in mind. Ticketing, age limits, photography, and other conditions cannot be generalised to every occasion because they depend on the organiser and programme.
Thirty to 45 minutes is enough to look at the exterior, but the building's scale is best understood during an event when the hall is open. Before travelling, check the programme, entry conditions, and which rooms will be open.
