What to see in Klausučiai Rebirth Park
The park's appeal lies in the whole of its carefully tended village landscape rather than in one monumental attraction. Paths pass mature trees, decorative planting, and rest areas, while the landscaped Klausučiai pond brings water into the route. A municipal route leaflet published soon after the renewal counted 917 trees; treat that as an inventory from that period, not an unchanging present-day total.
The grounds support different kinds of visits. There is a children's play area, places for football, basketball, and volleyball, benches, and paths for a quiet walk. This is not a long nature trail: about an hour is enough to see the main features without rushing.
Woodcarvings, cemetery memory, and the centenary marker
A memorial to the vanished old Klausučiai cemetery survives among the greenery, marked by a cross carved by folk artist Jonas Zubavičius. This modest feature shows that today's recreation space also carries a commemorative layer and should be approached respectfully rather than treated simply as decoration.
Near the Šeimena, look for Kazimieras Martinaitis's carving of a girl with a watering can. Other wooden works are placed around the park. In 2021, when Klausučiai celebrated its centenary and year as a Lithuanian Small Capital of Culture, a sculptural composition by Raimundas Blažaitis was installed on the riverbank.
From the lime trees planted in 1977 to the 2013 park
The local-history resource maintained by Vilkaviškis District Municipal Public Library dates the park's beginnings to spring 1977, when the first lime trees were planted on open land beside the Šeimena. The present park was therefore not created in a single intervention: it grew from a green space shaped by the community over several decades.
The landscaped Klausučiai Rebirth Park opened in 2013. Paths, rest, play, and sports areas, together with the renewed pond, made it a destination for both the village and neighbouring communities. Klausučiai itself formed after the 1920 land reform, when land from the former Pocviečiai manor was distributed to Lithuanian volunteers.
A living venue for local events
Rebirth Park is also the summer stage of Klausučiai. Since 2014 it has hosted the biennial Vieškelio vingiais gathering of folk-music ensembles from the Marijampolė region, alternating with the Per Klausučių ulytėlę village festival. The Summer Music Park series uses the grounds for evenings of popular, jazz, and classical music.
The tradition continues. Vilkaviškis Cultural Centre's July 2026 programme advertised a Green Dinner and a Summer Music Park concert here. Dates change from year to year, so always check the official cultural centre listing for the starting time and any temporary restrictions.
Planning your visit
The park is an open public space on Liepų Street, with no admission ticket or museum-style opening hours. Official descriptions do not specify a dedicated parking arrangement, so follow road signs and keep residential driveways clear. Sports facilities or the event area may be in use by local groups.
Path edges near the water and beneath trees can be damp after rain, so wear footwear suited to the weather. The pond is not presented as an official bathing beach. Families may want extra time for the play area, while visitors seeking a quiet walk should come outside scheduled events.
