A vintage motorcycle museum near Telšiai
The Vintage Motorcycle Museum is in Rapaliai village near Telšiai, at the Auksinis elnias countryside tourism homestead by the Virvytė River. It is a private collection assembled by Telšiai resident Albinas Monstavičius, born from a long-standing passion for motorcycles and a wish to show rare vintage machines in one place.
The museum is often called the largest of its kind in the Baltic states. This description is common in media and tourism sources, so it is best understood as a sign of the collection's importance rather than a strictly audited ranking.
The collection: only working pre-war motorcycles
The museum's defining feature is that it displays only motorcycles made before 1945, and all of them are in working order. This is not a set of models or images: every exhibit is an authentic restored machine, which makes the collection especially valued by technical-history enthusiasts.
The collection includes several dozen motorcycles from different countries: the United States, England, Germany, and Italy. Names mentioned include BMW, Indian, Harley-Davidson, Rudge, BSA, Sunbeam, Zündapp, and Moto Guzzi. The oldest exhibit is described as a late-19th-century motorcycle, and the founder restores several machines a year.
The homestead setting
The museum building was designed specifically for the collection, with a structure that would allow a second floor for a growing exhibition in the future. Around it is the Auksinis elnias homestead, with sculptures, paths, a rural tourism setting by the Virvytė, and deer kept on the grounds.
That setting makes the visit more than a museum stop. The motorcycle exhibition can be combined with a walk through the homestead and a short rest in nature.
How to visit
Because this is a private museum in a countryside homestead, visits should be arranged in advance. A regular visit usually takes 30-60 minutes, and it combines well with Telšiai city and other district sights.
Exact opening hours and ticket prices are not always publicly stable and may change, so check them by contacting the homestead before travelling. It is best to arrive at an agreed time so the exhibition is open and can be accompanied by a story.
