A water body of only 2.6 hectares
A publicly available local description gives Vilūnai Lake a length of 0.34 km, a width of up to 0.1 km, and an area of 2.6 hectares. Another geographic catalogue rounds the area to 2.5 hectares, so the small difference is best understood as source rounding rather than evidence of two separate lakes.
Those dimensions set the right expectation: this is a small, elongated lake for a brief stop, not a full-day recreation complex. Reedy inlets and a wooded edge create the feeling of a quiet rural water landscape.
Vilūnai Beach is a separate visitor point
Kaišiadorys District visitor documents list Vilūnai Lake Beach, and the district's 2025 tourist map marks Vilūnai Beach. This gives visitors a defined shore area, but the beach listing and the entire lake are not the same place.
The sources reviewed did not provide a reliable current inventory of every facility, so do not assume a pier, courts, toilets, or lifeguards. Check signs on arrival and stay on legally accessible shore.
What the 2026 water-testing schedule means
The Hygiene Institute's 2026 schedule includes Vilūnai recreation site among its water-testing locations. It lists planned dates of May 20, June 3 and 18, July 3, 17 and 31, August 14 and 28, and September 9.
This is a sampling calendar, not a pre-issued conclusion about water quality on any particular day. For swimming, follow the latest local notices and signs; being included in a schedule does not guarantee that the water is suitable at all times.
A small lake, not a large water-sports centre
A public local visitor description includes Vilūnai Lake in a district lakes and swimming series. Its account of a swim on 5 August 2023 shows that the water can be experienced from the lake itself, but one organised swim does not guarantee permanent rentals, rescue cover, or infrastructure.
The beach setting is better suited to a short swim, sunbathing, or quiet shore observation. Do not arrive expecting a large marina, a boat route, or many services.
Visit quietly and safely
Do not dive from an unknown shore or into untested shallows, leave children unattended in the water, and take extra care on a slippery shore after rain. Do not use private driveways, drive across meadows, or light fires outside a designated place.
Take rubbish with you, leave reed beds undisturbed, and keep noise low beside a small village lake. For a longer day, combine Vilūnai Lake with Kalvių Lake, the Kalviai Rotunda, or sites around Kruonis, but use each place's own access rules.
