Two floors of living Academy art
Titanikas occupies two floors totalling about 500 square metres. Several exhibitions can run simultaneously, so a visit rarely stays with one artist or medium. Painting and sculpture may sit beside design, architecture, photography, media art, or an interdisciplinary project.
The main source is the Vilnius Academy of Arts community itself: students, teachers, and alumni. The halls host graduate and doctoral shows, presentations by emerging artists, educational retrospectives, and international exchanges. The programme therefore changes often and follows the rhythm of the academic year.
From derelict printing house to Titanikas
Before reconstruction, the building was an abandoned former printing house. From 2003 to 2007, it accommodated Intro Gallery, improvised artists' studios, student art days, and degree-project examinations. This informal cultural life predates today's polished halls.
The official exhibition venue began in 2009 after reconstruction. Its formal name, Block D, never took hold in everyday speech; the nickname Titanikas, attached to the building's large volume, became the recognisable name. It is not a maritime museum and has no exhibition devoted to the historical liner.
Reading an always-changing programme
Before visiting, check the current exhibition list rather than only the general venue description. One floor may hold a solo retrospective and the other a project by several emerging artists, while graduate season turns the halls into an intense panorama of disciplines. Labels and curatorial texts are particularly useful because some work responds to research or the academic process.
The VDA Museum nearby holds Academy collections of painting, graphic art, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, and media art, much of it made up of student course and diploma work. The museum collection and Titanikas exhibitions are not the same visit, but together they reveal a long continuity of creative education.
Free admission on Maironio Street
Titanikas is at Maironio g. 3, among Vilnius Academy of Arts buildings near Bernardine Garden. On 2026-07-21, official hours were Tuesday-Saturday 12:00-18:00. It was closed on Sunday, Monday, and public holidays.
Admission to the exhibition halls was free. Openings, lectures, and conferences may follow different times, and an individual hall may close while a display is changed. Check the VAA programme in the same week if you are travelling for a particular exhibition.
