A twin-towered church in central Vainutas
The church stands at A. Baranausko g. 18A. The parish office is at number 20, so visitors should not confuse the two addresses.
The fieldstone churchyard wall and twin towers make the building easy to recognise in central Vainutas. The churchyard is suitable for an exterior visit; enter only according to parish visiting arrangements.
Construction in 1869 and consecration in 1883
After interruptions, the present church was completed in 1869 and consecrated in 1883 by Bishop Mečislovas Leonardas Paliulionis. These dates mark different stages.
The rectangular building has twin towers, an apse and three altars. A fieldstone wall surrounds the churchyard, and the church is a cultural monument.
An active parish, not a museum
Sunday Mass is at noon, Tuesday and Thursday at 18:00, Wednesday and Friday at 09:00, and Saturday at 10:00 or by arrangement. Check the current schedule before travel.
A commemorative roofed post in the churchyard marks a 400-year anniversary. Interior access outside worship requires an arrangement with the parish, and there is no regular museum ticketing system.
