From youth studio to city theatre
The theatre traces its origins to director Stanislovas Rubinovas's Youth Musical Studio. The company gained professional status in 1986, then moved to today's central building in 1991 and fitted out two small performance spaces itself.
The present municipal institution continues the earlier company's creative line. Contemporary writing, experimentation, and emerging artists matter, but the programme changes by season. Plan around a specific production rather than a generic theatre visit.
Tickets, box office, and late arrivals
Tickets are sold online and at the box office. In 2026 reservations by phone and email were handled Tuesday-Sunday, 11:00-18:00, excluding Monday. The box office opened two hours before weekday events and one hour before weekend events. Prices vary by production.
Latecomers are not admitted once a performance starts, and their tickets are not exchanged or refunded. Since the entrance lies in the courtyard at 74A Kęstučio Street, arrive 20-30 minutes early to find it, collect reservations, and use the cloakroom.
Accessibility and planning the evening
Wheelchair users buying for the Main Hall should notify the box office in advance. The theatre also states that its toilets are not wheelchair accessible. Discuss arrangements on +370 612 62 226 before purchasing.
The theatre is near Laisvės Avenue, the Musical Theatre, and the National Drama Theatre. Plan dinner or a walk before the show, never after its advertised start. Check parking and major city events in advance too.
