The church on Tiesioji Street
The present church stands at 3 Tiesioji Street in Kaltinėnai. The Telšiai Diocese lists the parish administration separately at 4 Tiesioji Street, so the two numbers should not be merged.
This is an active Catholic sanctuary, not a museum. Doors may be locked outside worship, and group visits or photography should be arranged with the parish.
A parish since 1416
The Telšiai Diocese dates the foundation of Kaltinėnai parish to 1416. Six church buildings have stood in the town during this long history.
The previous church burned in 1988. This rupture explains why the historic parish now worships in modern architecture rather than an old timber building.
The sixth building
The diocesan history calls the current church the sixth. In 2007 a state commission accepted it and the building was entered in the Real Estate Register.
Outside, two tall white towers with pointed dark roofs, groups of narrow vertical windows, and a restrained central facade make the church immediately recognisable.
Christ sculpture and stained glass
The interior’s central accent is a large Christ sculpture by Alfonsas Vaura. The diocese attributes the major stained-glass work above it to Vytautas Švarlys and dates it to 2013.
Stained-glass Stations of the Cross and a digital organ are also recorded. View them quietly without disturbing liturgy or private prayer.
Mass and St John’s feast
The diocese publishes Mass times and the St John the Baptist indulgence feast on 24 June. These parish details can change, so check the current timetable.
During feast days or Sunday Mass, the building serves the worshipping community first. Tourist photography must not interrupt rites.
Separate from the Spirituality Park
The nearby Kaltinėnai Spirituality Park is a separate outdoor space; the church itself is a place of worship with its own history and architecture.
