What remains in Šingaliai Forest
The former base stands in woodland by Šingaliai in Josvainiai Eldership. It was missile support and storage infrastructure rather than one isolated bunker. Concrete roads, building foundations, protective earthworks and other engineered elements remain in the landscape.
Municipal council material specifically mentions a massive hangar at the former missile base. The condition of abandoned structures varies, however, and their visible scale does not mean that entering them or climbing over their roofs is safe.
A Cold War site, not an adventure set
The remnants explain a closed layer of Soviet military infrastructure. Concrete routes, rail and storage traces, and protective relief belonged to a functional system, not scenery created for today's visitors.
Descriptions involving missile and nuclear-warhead technical support refer to the site's historical military context, not a claim that weapons remain there today. Present risks come from derelict structures, pits, debris and restricted access.
Private ownership and military exercises
Kėdainiai District documents state that the former base is private property divided among many owners, some difficult to contact. An absent gate or worn path is therefore not permission to enter. Explicit consent from an owner or lawful organiser is essential.
The municipality also announces Lithuanian Armed Forces field exercises at the former base. Never enter during exercises, touch unidentified objects or ignore barriers and instructions. Cancel the visit if access status is unclear.
A responsible way to understand the site
Josvainiai has no permanent ticket office, published museum hours or guaranteed public entry. The appropriate format is an advance-arranged Cold War tour whose authorised organiser confirms both permission and a safe route.
Do not go alone, force locked buildings, climb roofs or remove finds. Boots or a helmet do not make trespass safe. Always confirm the exact tour, price and time with the official organiser before travelling.
