Druskupis: the only such tower in Lithuania
Druskupis is an open-air mineral-water evaporation tower in Birštonas resort park, the only structure of this kind in Lithuania. It opened in 2015 and quickly became one of the resort's distinctive places, where rest is joined with natural wellness.
The structure stands in the central resort park near sanatoriums, so it is easy to reach on foot. Although called a tower, Druskupis is more like an open pavilion with a mineral-water fountain and salt gallery, a place to pause rather than simply pass.
How the evaporation tower works
The graduation principle is simple but effective: mineral water is let flow down the walls of the structure, while sun and wind evaporate it naturally. As the water evaporates, it enriches the surrounding air with minerals and creates a so-called seaside-air effect felt within about 50-80 m.
Sitting or walking nearby, visitors breathe mineral-rich air similar to the seaside. The tower uses Birštonas mineral water, known for its composition, and the sound and movement of flowing water are calming in themselves.
Birštonas resort and wellness
Druskupis is inseparable from Birštonas, an international wellness resort known for mineral water, therapeutic mud, clean air, and the Nemunas Loops landscape. The open-air evaporation tower adds a free, outdoor natural space to the resort's wellness offer.
The place is also interesting in the evening: after dark Druskupis lights up in changing colours and becomes a small resort accent. It is worth visiting not only for wellness but also for the relaxed resort mood.
How to visit
The tower is an open resort-park space and can be visited freely. Because water is evaporated only during the warm season, spring, summer, and early autumn are best, when the seaside-air effect can be felt. A short stop usually takes 15-30 minutes.
Combine it with a walk through Birštonas resort park, mineral-water fountains, and the Nemunas Loops riverside. Check the Birštonas Tourism Information Centre page for more exact seasonal operation information.
