Antazavė Church of Divine Providence, gate and belfry
A timber basilica from 1794
The church was built in 1794 through the patronage of Countess Kunigunda Walewska-Plater, owner of Antazavė Manor. It is a cruciform, basilican timber church with two towers and Baroque forms adapted to local material and scale.
Dark board walls, pale accents and the twin-tower facade create its distinctive silhouette. The nearby manor is a separate destination, not part of the church complex.
Late Baroque altars and portable objects
The three-aisled interior contains three late Baroque altars. A wooden Crucifix occupies the central altar, with original figures of Saints Peter and Paul at the sides.
Saugoma also records an eighteenth-century hand-washing bowl, a nineteenth-century portable altar, a figure of Saint John of Nepomuk and an organ. Seeing them depends on interior access.
Gate and belfry
The Baroque masonry gate with openwork metal gates and the tapering three-stage timber belfry date from 1827. Saugoma lists the church, gate and belfry as one protected complex rather than three separate visitor destinations.
From Zalvės Street, the white gate frames the timber facade while the separate belfry stands within the churchyard.
Mass and visiting
This is an active parish church, not a museum. The diocese lists Mass at 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday, with seasonal weekday times; verify the current schedule before travelling.
Interior access depends on parish arrangements. Do not disturb services, and contact the parish in advance if you want a quiet visit or permission to photograph.
