Zarasaitis Beach, Zarasaitis Lake bathing beach
An open-water pool and Zarasai's diving tower
The beach's defining features are a pier-enclosed open-water swimming pool and a multi-level diving tower whose highest platform reaches 10 metres. Generations in Zarasai associate it with summer, but high diving is only for capable swimmers who have checked the current depth and safety conditions.
Families are better served by the gentler shore and dry-land recreation areas. Children still require constant supervision, and all local signs must be obeyed after storms, changes in water level, or temporary closures.
The 2014 design and a renewed waterfront
The redesigned beach opened in May 2014 following a project by the a2sm architectural team. Between 2019 and 2022, the municipality completed a EUR 348,398.87 public-space scheme, renewing and adding walking and cycling paths.
Beach volleyball, outdoor exercise equipment, a children's playground and picnic areas broadened the shore beyond bathing. It is possible to spend several hours here without entering the water.
What to check before a summer visit
The shore is a public open space, but cafés, equipment hire and water attractions are seasonal. Check municipal updates, current bathing-water tests, and the day's wind and weather before travelling.
Busy hot days fill the best lakeside spaces quickly. Bring drinking water, sun protection and suitable footwear, and consider arriving by bicycle as part of a longer Zarasai lakeside route.
A beach within the city route
The Zarasaitis shore combines easily with Sėliai Square, Zarasai Regional Museum and the Lake Zarasas Observation Circle. It is not the Great Island beach: the two places face different lakes and offer different surroundings.
Morning and evening suit a quieter walk, while the warmer middle of the day best serves swimming and seasonal facilities. Keep away from the diving tower and piers after dark.
What the coordinate and bathing-site status mean
The coordinate on this page marks the open-water pool mapped inside the beach complex on OpenStreetMap, not a car park or a single official entrance. Follow local signs on arrival and keep service access clear.
The Institute of Hygiene profile confirms that Zarasaitis is treated as an official bathing site, but a profile is not a same-day assurance that swimming is safe. Current seasonal test results, notices posted on site and the actual weather and water conditions should guide the decision to enter the lake.
