Where the Old Town meets the crossing
North Horn is a waterfront headland at the mouth of the Danė and edge of the Curonian Lagoon. The Old Ferry Terminal connects central Klaipėda with Smiltynė, making it both a viewing place and a busy everyday transport interchange.
A river-transport company was established at the old landing on 20 May 1945. A new pier opened in 2011 with berths for two ferries and infrastructure designed for passenger flows.
A new address but the same boarding point
In May 2026, the official address changed from 1 Danės Street to 1 Ernesto Galvanausko Boulevard. Smiltynės Perkėla states that only the short street section was renamed and that passenger boarding and arrival remain physically unchanged.

Old Terminal for people, New Terminal for vehicles
The Old Ferry Terminal serves pedestrians and cyclists. Cars, motorcycles and other motor vehicles cross from the New Ferry Terminal at 8 Nemuno Street. Do not drive to North Horn expecting to board the pedestrian ferry.
On reaching Smiltynė, continue towards the Lithuanian Sea Museum or join the Curonian Spit cycle route. Walk bicycles as instructed by staff, keep gates clear and allow arriving passengers to disembark first.
Temporary 2026 access and trip planning
From 25 May to 30 November 2026, the Danė Street section from Pilies Street to the lagoon is closed to pedestrians and vehicles for North Horn reconstruction. Passengers are redirected to the Old Ferry Terminal through the Memel City building complex.
Schedules and fares vary by season, so do not rely on old travel blogs. Check the official keltas.lt timetable on the day, arrive early, and allow for queues on summer weekends and around museum events.
