A tower by Meteliai village
Meteliai Observation Tower stands in the southern part of Meteliai village, by road No. 181 Seirijai-Simnas-Igliauka. The official Saugoma.lt address is Seirijų g. 1A, Meteliai village, Lazdijai District.
It is a clear, convenient stop in Meteliai Regional Park. The tower is not very high, but its position is chosen so that lakes, wetlands, village, and hillfort landscape can be read in one stop.
15 m height and reed motif
Saugoma.lt states that the tower is 15 m high. Its architecture resembles a twisted bundle of reeds, visually linking it to lakeshore reedbeds and wetlands.
This tower is not about an extreme height experience. Its strength is landscape reading: from a relatively modest height, you can see how lake, meadow, village, and older relief points connect into one Meteliai panorama.
What you can see
Saugoma.lt lists the main visual landmarks: the broad water of Lake Metelys, Kimsinė meadow, Meteliai village, Papėčiai Hillfort, and the strip of Lake Dusia in the distance.
It is especially useful for visitors who want to understand Meteliai Regional Park as more than a swimming or rest area. The tower shows both wetland and cultural-landscape layers.
Meteliai Regional Park context
Meteliai Regional Park protects the great Dzūkija lakes, wetlands, and open landscapes. VLE says the park covers 17,729 ha and is intended to protect the largest southern Lithuanian lakes and their surroundings, so the tower helps visitors see one of the park's most valuable parts: the shores of Metelys and surrounding meadows.
Kimsinė meadow is important as a wetland habitat, and the mosaic of lakes and open spaces is favourable for birds. The tower is therefore useful not only for photography but also for quiet birdwatching.
How to visit
The tower usually takes 30-60 minutes. If you want to photograph or watch birds, choose morning or evening, when there is less noise and softer light.
Even though the tower is not high, hold railings, do not cross barriers, and leave no litter. Wetland landscapes are sensitive, so do not create new paths or walk through meadows without permission.
What to see nearby
The tower combines well with the Meteliai Regional Park visitor centre, Lake Dusia shores, Lake Metelys, and the direction of Papėčiai Hillfort. In a Dzūkija trip it is a good stop between lakes and wetlands.
For a broader route, Meteliai Tower can be the first orientation point: from above you can place the lakes, village, meadows, and more distant hillforts in relation to one another.
