LTMKM, Lithuanian Theatre, Music and Film Museum
A museum born from theatrical memory
The institution began in 1926 as the Theatre Art History Museum in Kaunas. Its core consisted of material from professional Lithuanian theatre: programmes, posters, directors' scripts, photographs, letters, costumes, and scenography designs. The collections later expanded into music and cinema.
Today the museum preserves more than relics of famous actors or directors. Its holdings reveal the entire creative process, from a composer's score and designer's sketch to a worn costume, film equipment, and performance reviews. They make visible the network of professions behind stage and screen.
The Small Radvila Palace and changing exhibitions
Since 1995 the museum has occupied the restored Small Radvila Palace complex on Vilniaus Street. Its pale façades, red-tiled roofs, and arcaded courtyard are part of the visit, but the interior is not one fixed chronological exhibition.
Several temporary exhibitions may address theatre, ballet, scenography, cinema, music, or one creator. Check both the schedule and the number of exhibitions operating on your date, because the ticket price depends on whether you visit one, two, or three.
Muzeoteka opens the museum stores
Muzeoteka opened in the courtyard at Vilniaus g. 41D in March 2024 after sixteen years of reconstruction. Its theatre, large-instrument, music, camera, and heavy film-equipment stores hold about 70 per cent of the museum collection. Objects are displayed more densely than in a conventional exhibition, revealing the scale of collecting and conservation.
Muzeoteka is not a freely accessible extra gallery. On 2026-07-21, the museum stated that it was visited by pre-booked guided tour in groups of up to 15. The entrance is from Klaipėdos Street, and the charge combines a museum ticket with a guide fee.
2026 hours and ticket structure
On 2026-07-21, opening hours were Wednesday-Saturday 10:00-18:00 and Sunday 10:00-16:00, with closure on Monday, Tuesday, and public holidays. The museum closes one hour earlier on the day before a public holiday.
An adult ticket cost EUR 5 for one exhibition, EUR 6 for two, and EUR 8 for three; concessions were EUR 2.50, EUR 3, and EUR 4. All visitors received free admission on the last Sunday of the month. Always confirm prices and the current exhibition combination on the official page.
