Linkmenys Church
A church in the centre of Linkmenys village
Linkmenys Holy Trinity Church stands at 10 Bažnyčios Street in Linkmenys, Ignalina District. The destination includes the church, its churchyard, boundary and immediate village landscape. The map point represents the church grounds rather than the village centre.
The name matters for navigation: Linkmenys is not Medingėnai. Although both settlements have churches dedicated to the Holy Trinity, they are different villages and separate destinations.
A parish history reaching back to the sixteenth century
Ignalina tourism information says that a church stood in Linkmenys before 1517. Grand Duke Sigismund Augustus supported a wooden parish church and bell tower. A later wooden church was rebuilt in 1645 and again in 1720, and the Holy Trinity dedication became established in the parish story.
The present masonry building was begun in 1885 under engineer Čerkasov. It was completed and furnished in 1887, and a stone churchyard boundary was added in 1898. This sequence separates the long parish history from the date of the building visible today.
Eclectic architecture in stone and brick
The building is a rectangular basilica with a single projecting front tower. Red brick is combined with stonework, a steep roof and restrained Neo-Romanesque and eclectic details. This one-tower composition is the clearest way to distinguish it from larger twin-towered churches in the region.
Look for the rhythm of the brickwork, stone surfaces, tower openings and the stone churchyard wall. The churchyard also includes a rūpintojėlis devotional figure and chapel-post group linked to anniversaries in 1984 and 1987; Jesus and Mary sculptures were added in 2009 and 2010.
An active parish and respectful visiting
This is an active Catholic parish, so sightseeing must fit around its religious purpose. The archdiocese lists Sunday Mass at 08:00 and opening before the service, but the timetable and interior access at other times may change.
Contact the parish in advance if you want to see the interior, and do not enter during a service without an invitation. Dedicated visitor parking, toilets and step-free access are not listed, so confirm those facilities with the parish before travelling.

Allow 30-60 minutes to view the tower and facade, walk around the stone boundary and take in the village setting. After rain, approaches may be slippery, and ordinary care is needed on rural streets and gravel surfaces.
The church can be combined with Ladakalnis, Ginučiai Water Mill or Puziniškis Oak. These are separate places, so plan their distances, daylight and access independently.
