The church and belfry in central Labanoras
Labanoras Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands at 18 Bažnyčios Street in Labanoras. One visit brings together the dark brown wooden church, a surviving separate wooden belfry, brick entrance gates, and the churchyard. The present building is not the untouched 1820 church: it was rebuilt after the 2009 fire and consecrated in 2011.
The map point marks the church and belfry complex. The Labanoras Regional Park visitor centre is a separate attraction with a different role and map point, even though both places fit naturally into one trip.
A long parish history and the 1818-1820 wooden church
The Labanoras parish is recorded as early as 1522. A 1675 visitation described an old collapsing church and an image of Our Lady of Sorrows regarded as miraculous. An earlier church burned in 1798, so parishioners built another wooden church in 1818-1820.
That nineteenth-century church was restored in summer 2009, but it burned completely on the night of 21 December. The belfry survived. The present church was rebuilt after the fire and reconsecrated on 10 September 2011, so a visitor should distinguish the continuity of the parish tradition from the age of the visible building.
The surviving belfry and parish museum
The belfry is not a separate destination but a surviving component of the church complex. Its broad shingle roof, open or louvred openings, and modest vernacular timber silhouette stand beside the church as a reminder of what survived the fire.
A parish museum opened in the belfry in 2013. It includes sacred vessels, candlesticks, bells, tools, a roughly 200-year-old nail, fire fragments, details from saint images, and liturgical clothing. Museum hours are not consistently published, so arrange access with the parish or local administration in advance.
Labanoras, the forest, and Labanorinė
Labanoras is a town in Švenčionys District within the setting of Labanoras Forest and the regional park, about 18 km north-west of Švenčionėliai. The church site matters not only as a building: it shows how a religious centre fits into the lake- and forest-rich landscape of eastern Lithuania.
Labanorinė, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary feast, is held in early September. Its dates may vary from year to year. Labanoras Forest, the visitor centre, the veteran trees, and Lake Aisetas are separate itinerary choices, not parts of the church itself.
