KCCC Art Yard, KKKC Meno kiemas, Klaipėda Art Yard
An art yard inside a historic half-timbered complex
The Art Yard occupies a warehouse complex between Bažnyčių, Daržų and Pasiuntinių streets. The heritage record identifies the eighteenth-century warehouses as Fachwerk-type industrial architecture characteristic of the Klaipėda region. A passage at 4 Bažnyčių Street leads into the enclosed inner courtyard.
In half-timbered construction, the visible wooden frame carries the structure while other material fills the panels. Notice the rhythm of white walls and dark beams, red-tiled gable roofs, tall warehouse volumes and the enclosed plan of a merchant's working courtyard.
From merchants' warehouses to artists' studios
The heritage source says that a wealthy merchant used these warehouses to store different goods. Today, the historic working environment serves artistic production: permanent and resident artists in the KCCC Art Yard studios present their practices and creative results.
KCCC's residency programme welcomes Lithuanian and international artists, curators and researchers. It supports work in the Old Town, open-studio days, workshops, talks and collaboration with the local community. The Art Yard's content therefore changes with its residents and projects.
Creative workshops rather than a permanent display
Art Yard education is designed to develop creativity across age groups and introduce professional visual-art techniques. Past programmes have included printmaking, painting, monotype, textile work and calligraphy, but themes, prices and age limits depend on each event.
This is not a gallery with a permanent display and identical daily opening hours. KCCC lists Art Yard education dates and times as individually arranged, while public events receive separate announcements. Find a specific event or contact KCCC before making a dedicated trip.
4 Bažnyčių Street, 10 Daržų Street and three separate institutions
The Art Yard is commonly listed at 4 Bažnyčių Street, while some events use 10 Daržų Street or both addresses. They lead to the same connected courtyard and building complex from different sides. This page's Google point at 55.7071800, 21.1357097 marks the KCCC Art Yard itself.
KCCC Exhibition Hall is a separate venue at 2 Didžioji Vandens Street, with regular exhibition hours and a ticket desk. Klaipėda Ethnoculture Centre also operates at 10 Daržų Street as a different municipal institution. Always check both the organiser and exact entrance in an event announcement.
Visiting the courtyard responsibly
You may briefly enter the open courtyard to view its architecture when passages are accessible, but studios and residency rooms are not automatically public. Do not open unmarked doors, interrupt working artists or touch outdoor works unless interaction is explicitly invited.
KCCC administration hours published for 4 Bažnyčių Street are not the same as tourist opening hours for the Art Yard. Contact the centre in advance about education, group visits, events or accessibility. Historic uneven courtyard paving may matter to visitors with reduced mobility.
The exact Google listing has place ID ChIJGQ-90_Db5EYRNAJvGT6dbV8. On 24 July 2026 it showed 4.7 out of 5 from 88 reviews. The score can change and does not indicate whether a public event will be running during your visit.
