Ančia Dam Beach: a developed recreation and activity zone on the eastern shore of Skaudvilė Reservoir

Ančia Dam Beach occupies the eastern shore of Skaudvilė Reservoir, created by damming the Ančia in 1975. A recreation, leisure and wellness zone with paths, sport and play areas and separate parking was completed here in 2018. The municipality's 2026 monitoring table lists two Skaudvilė beach points, so this page's coordinate marks the southern Beach I rather than the centre of the entire long shoreline.

The Ančia became a 26 ha reservoir in 1975

VLE records that damming the Ančia through Skaudvilė in 1975 created the 26 ha Skaudvilė Reservoir. This explains why locals and listings use both Ančia Dam and Skaudvilė Reservoir for the same body of water.

It is not a natural lake: water levels and shoreline conditions depend on the hydraulic structure and the river regime. Keep away from dam machinery and any possible outlet structures.

A recreation zone developed on the eastern shore

The Skaudvilė Eldership chronology records that a recreation, leisure and wellness zone opened beside the reservoir in 2018. The designers described an approximately 4.5 ha strip on the eastern shore extending from housing and a rolling pine grove towards the Ančia inflow.

The design included walking paths, street furniture, beach facilities, children's play and sport areas, a skate space, separate parking, lighting and accessibility measures. Inspect the condition of individual facilities after each season rather than assuming every element remains available.

Two officially named beach points

A 2026 municipal nature-monitoring table lists Skaudvilė Beach I and Skaudvilė Beach II separately. This page uses the southern Beach I coordinate, 55.41033, 22.57470; the second point lies farther north at 55.41207, 22.57650.

The beach is therefore not a single patch of sand defined by one pin. On arrival, choose the section of shore whose access, facilities and number of visitors best suit you that day.

Check swimming conditions on the day

Tauragė District Municipality includes Skaudvilė Reservoir among the bathing places it tests. A sample taken on 2 July 2026 met the HN 92:2018 limits for E. coli and intestinal enterococci, and inspectors saw no visible waste. One result does not describe the whole season, so find the newest notice before swimming.

The public outdoor space has no general admission fee or fixed closing time. Even so, swim only where permitted, never dive into unchecked water, supervise children closely and check for ticks after spending time in grass.
