Žalvario Parkas, Zalvaris Park
Not brassware, but objects given a second life
The name often misleads visitors: this is not a collection of brass objects. Žalvaris refers to a nearby village, while the park's principal material is what might otherwise become waste, including stage structures, vehicle components, scrap metal, and obsolete event equipment.
Exhibits are not arranged in a conventional white gallery. They are dispersed through almost 40 hectares of meadow, woodland, waterside, and farm grounds, inviting discovery on foot. One object behaves as sculpture, another as a game, viewpoint, or visual joke.
The purpose extends beyond displaying unusual things. Creative reuse encourages visitors to think about consumption, sorting, and conserving resources. With children, ask what an object once did, what material remains visible, and why it now carries a different meaning.
A project Algirdas Nomeika began in 2005
The park began in 2005, when event organiser Algirdas Nomeika started realising an idea developed over almost three decades. His work included Lithuanian Song Celebrations, World Lithuanian Sports Games, balloon championships, fireworks festivals, and other large events.
Structures left after events supplied early creations. Windblown horses on the hill, for example, had once decorated a theatre stage. The park also identifies the longest scooter and paddle and the largest pipe as objects entered in Lithuania's record book.
Nomeika's children took over after his death. They restored older works and introduced a wooden bogeyman, welded-metal virus, light tree, and water installations. It remains an evolving family project rather than a finished static exhibition.
Games and exhibits meant to be experienced
Independent exploration lets visitors set their own pace, while a guided tour explains the origin and idea of individual objects. A construction that first looks like comic scrap often gains meaning through its former event role or record story.
Active groups can book outdoor and indoor games, tests of strength and balance, table tennis, sports courts, and team challenges. Not every programme is included in ordinary admission; guiding, team building, and celebrations require advance reservation.
Surfaces vary between meadow, forest path, slope, and natural ground. Closed comfortable shoes matter more than city-walking clothes. Anyone requiring a level step-free route should discuss which parts are accessible under current conditions before travelling.
Water activities, picnics, and camping
