A parish founded in 1992
Bishop Antanas Vaičius of Telšiai established St Casimir's Parish on 22 March 1992. A cross was blessed on the future church site that May, followed by the cornerstone on 20 June.
Fifteen years later, Bishop Jonas Boruta SJ consecrated the church on 30 September 2007. It is therefore a deliberately post-independence creation, not the reconstruction of an earlier sanctuary.
A crown, a ship, and three sails
Architects Ričardas Krištapavičius and Adomas Skiesgelas designed the building. The tower composition suggests a crown and recalls the patron, St Casimir, prince of Lithuania.
Klaipėda's maritime identity appears in the ship-like volume. Three towers are interpreted as the sails of faith, hope, and love, while three entrances and triangular details emphasize the Trinity.
Exposed structure and stained-glass light
The interior does not conceal its structure, and ceiling heights vary across the space. The diocesan account connects this with the prayers of different people and the intended harmony of interior and exterior.
Stained-glass light in the sanctuary symbolizes ascent and spiritual growth. The church also includes a smaller chapel and an accessible ramp.
Visiting an active church
The interior is most reliably seen shortly before a published Mass. In July 2026 the diocese listed Sunday Masses at 09:00, 10:30, 12:00, and 18:00, with weekday and Saturday Masses at 09:00 and 18:00.
Schedules can change for feast days and summer, so check officially. There is no museum ticket; speak quietly, avoid staged photography during worship, and respect parish life.
