City Park in Joniškis

A central 4.1-hectare green space

Joniškis City Park is a compact green area beside the cultural centre and its summer stage. Municipal planning documents place its area at roughly 4.07-4.10 hectares and define its purposes as quiet recreation, active leisure, city festivals and other large public events. It is separate from the much larger Sidabra recreation zone beside the town reservoirs.

The park fits easily into a short town walk, yet its main value is not a botanical collection. It is an everyday community space: paths, lawns and tree shade support quiet pauses, while the neighbouring cultural facilities turn it into event grounds when the town gathers.

Youth space and the skate park renewed in 2024

A dedicated youth space opened in 2022, when an oak grown from a Stelmužė Oak acorn was also planted nearby. The municipality renewed the skate park in 2024. Installation began in early July and was completed on August 16.

The official project value was EUR 42,955. Its purpose was safer, longer-lasting use. Riders should still match features to their ability, wear a helmet and protective gear, and give other users enough room.

Summer stage and city events

The park works together with the cultural centre and summer-stage area. Municipal city-festival programmes place children's entertainment, creative activities, themed presentations and other public initiatives here. On festival days, an ordinarily calm park becomes one of Joniškis's busiest meeting places.

There is no permanent park ticket, although an individual event may set its own terms. Check the latest municipal or cultural-centre programme before travelling for a concert or festival because dates, start times and temporary traffic restrictions change.

Rules and a practical town route

The park is an open public space, but Joniškis District Municipality has designated it a no-smoking zone. Follow signs governing tobacco and electronic cigarettes and respect a setting intended for families and young people.

Allow 30-45 minutes for a short visit or at least an hour with play and an event. Combine the park with the Church of the Assumption, the town square and the synagogue complex. Central Joniškis is easiest on foot after leaving a car in a legal urban parking space.
