Architecture of Betygala's church
The present masonry church was built in 1925-1930 to a design by Vladimir Dubeneckis and consecrated in 1932. KVR describes a three-aisled Neo-Baroque church whose separate bell tower is joined to the main volume by a gallery.
Pale walls, a red roof, and a small-town scale distinguish it from a city cathedral. Five exterior sculptures are associated with sculptor Bronius Pundzius.
A parish reaching back to Vytautas
Betygala's first church is recorded in 1416, with Vytautas regarded as its founder, while a parish school is documented from 1579. The current building therefore continues a long religious and educational tradition.
Mikalojus Daukša served this parish in 1592-1609. That link is documented cultural history rather than local legend.
