Šiauliai City documents describe Beržynėlis as a park by Gegužių Street, while pedestrian and cycle planning records mark its route from Gegužių to Dainų. The grounds have several approaches, so a single street number shown online should not be treated as the only entrance. This page's coordinate is a representative point in the central park, not a reserved parking place or a certified step-free entrance.
Official usage varies between Beržynėlis Park, Beržynėlis, and the Beržynėlis children's play park. On this page all three names mean the same green space in southern Šiauliai. Do not confuse it with Dainų Park, associated with the Šiauliai Arena and larger event setting, or with Lieporiai Park: the city's smoke-free zone list names all three separately.
Beržynėlis is a residential-district park rather than a protected natural area or botanical garden. Its value lies in an everyday walk, children's play, neighbourhood activities, and a short green pause in southern Šiauliai. From the centre, treat it as a destination in its own right or pair it with the Žaliūkiai Miller's Farmstead rather than expecting Old Town sights immediately beside it.
The park established from 2004 developed in stages, making old facility lists misleading
Local press called the 2013 celebration Beržynėlis's ninth birthday and the 2014 event its tenth, placing the community's traditional starting date in 2004. That is not evidence of a completely finished park opening on one day. The official 2007-2016 Šiauliai strategic plan was still scheduling technical designs and infrastructure expansion for the children's play and leisure park in 2007-2008, showing that the place grew in phases.
Municipal activity reports for 2010 and 2011 mention timber equipment, sculptures, the stage, planting, seasonal bicycles, and, during one period, a small-zoo animal display. These details belong to the park's development history, not its present service list. No official 2026 confirmation was found for a permanently operating mini-zoo, bicycle hire desk, or amusement operator.
The family-park purpose survives in current use. Official 2025 photographs show several play areas of different sizes, the stage, open lawn, and a connected path network. The condition and intended age range of individual pieces can change; adults should read signs at each area and inspect the surfacing before children begin to play.
The pond island and two bridges form the park's clearest walking circuit
Beržynėlis's central scene is a small irregular pond surrounding a low grassy island. A worn bridge was removed in 2024, and two new straight timber footbridges with rails were installed in 2025. The paired crossings let visitors include the island in a short loop instead of retracing the same path. This is an ornamental park waterbody, not a designated bathing place.
A total of 2,800 daffodils were planted on the island in 2024, making spring the most distinctive season. The municipality planned an additional paved strip to stop visitors crossing the flower beds. Even at peak bloom, stay on constructed surfaces and do not create informal routes through the planting; the exact flowering dates depend on each year's weather.
Some banks are low and not continuously fenced. Keep small children within arm's reach, and take particular care on wet timber and damp grass after rain. Do not obstruct a bridge with bicycles or pushchairs, and never climb onto the rails.
The 2025 renewal repaired paths, the stage court, and the dog area
The municipality reported renewing about 1.3 km of worn park paths. Paved resting pockets with new benches were added beside them, leaving space next to a bench for a wheelchair user. This is a practical accessibility improvement, but it does not by itself certify every approach, bridge, and play zone as one fully audited step-free circuit.
The court beside the simple timber stage had previously collected water. In 2025 its base was reinforced, raised, and paved. The new benches here deliberately have no backrests because the community also uses this space for exercise and movement sessions; they are not defective or unfinished seating. Events and classes follow changing programmes, so finding a stage does not guarantee activity during a particular visit.
The fenced dog exercise area was renewed at the same time, with a replacement fence, repaired equipment, and a bench. Outside it, city rules require a lead in public space and a shortened lead when approaching people or other animals. Owners must collect waste inside the fenced area as well as elsewhere in the park.
Playgrounds, stage, and island reward a loop rather than one straight crossing
For a short orientation, follow the central paths around the pond, enter the island over one bridge, and leave by the other. Continue either towards the children's play zones or the stage. Without long stops this takes about 30-45 minutes; a family allowing time to play and eat a snack should reserve a more realistic 1.5-2 hours.
There are no gated opening hours or general admission ticket because this is a public city park. Individual community events, organised exercise, or temporary amusements may set their own times and conditions. Beržynėlis is also an officially designated smoke-free zone, extending the restriction beyond the play areas themselves.
Benches and shade from mature trees are available, but the checked sources did not confirm a permanently staffed visitor centre, a public-toilet schedule, or a drinking-water point. Bring water and place picnic waste in the provided bins or take it away. Never treat pond water as drinkable or allow children or animals to swim in it.
Access projects dated 2026-2028 are plans, not promises about today's parking
In September 2025 the municipality scheduled a car park on the Gegužių Street and Beržynėlis side for construction in 2026-2027. Because that window extends into the future, this page cannot claim that the facility was finished or consistently available on the review date. Drivers should follow on-site signs, keep vehicles off grass and paths, and check current municipal works notices before a special trip.
The same notice scheduled the design and possible construction of a new path on the Dainų Street side for 2027-2028. Navigation should therefore target a functioning approach rather than merely the geometrically closest point. Temporary fencing or a closed path end does not necessarily mean that the whole park is shut.
Renewed paths work for pedestrians and slow cycling, but this remains a family park. Reduce speed near play areas, benches, and bridges and give way to walkers. Lighting and visibility can differ between sections after dark, so a first visit is easier in daylight.
