What to see in the central park of Kaišiadorys
The park combines curving paths, planted beds, a fountain area, benches, outdoor tables, and spaces intended for different activities. This is not a vast natural park or a long hike. You can walk around its main area in about half an hour while taking time to stop by the water and planting displays.
Families will find a children's playground, while outdoor games and exercise equipment make the park more than a shortcut across the town centre. The fountains operate seasonally and depend on maintenance, so check the latest municipality information if they are the main reason for your visit.
How the 2017 reconstruction changed the park
The park's present form was shaped by a reconstruction completed in 2017. Kaišiadorys District Municipality says the work renewed its green areas, fountain, lighting, and street furniture, and created children's play, sport, and rest areas. The project aimed not merely to beautify the centre but to make the public space useful in everyday life.
In 2020, the reconstruction won the People's Voice category for the best Ministry of the Interior-funded regional development project in the Kaunas region for 2014-2020. The municipality reported a final cost of EUR 816,972.32, with most eligible expenditure covered by European Union and national funds.
Nine colour gardens and work in 2026
A new landscaping and renewal phase began in April 2026. The official concept divides the space into nine colour gardens, ranging from white and yellow flowers to blue-toned planting and vivid autumn palettes. The planting is intended to give the park a clearer identity through different seasons.
The new greenery is also designed as a natural barrier against dust and traffic noise from Gedimino Street. Existing plants are being retained, regrouped, and mulched where appropriate. Because the project is still in progress, some areas may be fenced off in 2026 and the finished park may not yet resemble the design description.
Algirdas Brazauskas and his connection with the town
The park is named after Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas, the first directly elected president of Lithuania after the restoration of independence. Although he was born in Rokiškis, the Brazauskas family returned to Kaišiadorys in 1938 and he attended secondary school here from 1939 to 1951.
The park is not a presidential museum. The Brazauskas family house on J. Biliūno Street presents that story in depth. Algirdas Brazauskas designed the house in 1958, and the family built it between 1958 and 1960. The park and museum therefore serve different purposes on a city itinerary.
Planning your visit
The park is a free public space with no ticket office. Gedimino Street provides an easy approach, although access points and paths may change during the 2026 work. Follow barriers and do not cross newly planted areas. The fountains are for viewing rather than paddling or bathing.
Continue a short visit along the Lomena riverbank or towards Kaišiadorys Cathedral and Teofilius Matulionis Square. The Kaišiadorys Diocesan Curia is visible beside the park, but its grounds are not simply an extension of the public park, so respect signs and property boundaries.
