Pačkėnai Living Witches Museum
A museum that began with a community gift
The museum opened on 13 July 2018 on the second floor of the Pačkėnai leisure centre. Its official opening account says local resident and maker Judita Krutoguz donated more than fifty witch dolls and household spirits.
The collection later grew through gifts from visitors and other makers. In 2026 the municipality called it the only museum of its kind in Lithuania, reported more than 1,000 annual visitors, and listed ten workshops for children and adults.
Artworks rather than historical evidence
The display centres on witch dolls and household spirits in different materials, sizes, and characters. Many have invented stories that may be presented by a live Witch character.
These stories should not be treated as archival facts about Baltic religion, healing, or historical witch trials. The venue is a contemporary community attraction and craft space that plays with folklore motifs.
Workshops, treats, and booked programmes
Advance-booked activities can include bracelet making, mosaics, dreamcatchers, mandalas, botanical compositions, and other crafts. Groups may also arrange character storytelling, a sand story, or themed refreshments.
Content and price depend on the group and choice. Arriving without a booking does not guarantee a guide, workshop, or refreshments, so confirm age limits, duration, cost, and included materials.
Weekdays, with weekends by arrangement
An official Utena culture description lists weekday opening as 09:00-17:00, while organiser-supplied descriptions also state 10:00-17:00. Because of this discrepancy, call before travelling and arrange weekends in advance.
The museum is on the leisure centre's second floor. Confirm stairs, toilets, and pushchair or mobility access when booking. No fixed general admission price is clearly published, while workshops and refreshments may be charged.
