Kazlų Rūda Viaduko Gallery, Viaduct Art Gallery
The gallery is the pedestrian bridge itself, not a room beside the station
Viaduko Gallery occupies a narrow pedestrian overpass across the working railway in central Kazlų Rūda. Orange steel frames, diagonal roof trusses, expanded-metal sides, and exhibits suspended above the path create one continuous space. The coordinate 54.748708, 23.494507 marks the middle of the gallery above the tracks, not a parking place.
The overpass can be approached from both halves of the town, from V. Borisevičiaus Street and Esperanto Street. It remains an everyday transport link, so its users include residents simply crossing the railway as well as people looking at art. There is no single main entrance, lobby, ticket desk, or enclosed exhibition hall.
Municipal planning records say the modern pedestrian overpass opened in 2006. Art arrived much later: the official attraction description dates the gallery's beginning to summer 2022. The first date therefore belongs to the bridge, while 2022 marks its new life as a continuing venue for changing exhibitions.
Twelve works hang above the route and change the bridge's perspective
The official attraction page says that twelve pictures can be seen here at one time. They occupy metal panels designed to hold a work on each face and hang high in the structure. Visitors encounter them in sequence while walking forward and can notice the reverse faces by turning back.
This is an outdoor display, not a climate-controlled store for original canvases. Images, artists, and panel positions can change. Municipal traffic-commission records from 2023 and 2024 even document adjustments involving the first exhibits and surveillance cameras, so an older photograph is not a dependable plan of today's sequence.
A separate lamp illuminates each display. Daylight is best for studying colour and surface, while at blue hour warm lights separate the works from the orange truss and deepening sky. After dark it remains a public railway crossing, so photographers should leave the narrow route clear.
Exhibitions rotate, so there is no single permanent list of artists
The gallery is conceived as a continuing sequence of temporary exhibitions. In May 2023 the municipality officially announced a show of nature photographs by Selemonas Paltanavičius and named the Jaunoji Sūduva association and Kazlų Rūda Cultural Centre as partners. That documented example explains the format but not what is hanging in 2026.
Later public descriptions mention painting, photography, and work by local makers, but the displays change every few months. By 19 July 2026 no newer official notice could be found that reliably identified every reproduction then hanging on the bridge. This page therefore does not promise a particular artist or work.
Before travelling, check the current exhibition on the official Kazlų Rūda attraction map or in municipal announcements. If those have not been updated, treat the show as a discovery on arrival: the encounter between art and an ordinary railway crossing is part of the place's value, independent of one exhibition's names.
The 2.2 km and ninety-work figures described the whole town route, not the bridge
In 2024 Viaduko Gallery became part of a longer outdoor-art walk. The municipality's activity report placed works along part of Vytauto Street, on V. Borisevičiaus Street, and on the overpass, giving the combined illuminated gallery a length of about 2.2 kilometres.
The same report mentioned ninety works and a rotation every few months. Those numbers should not be transferred to the bridge alone: its dedicated official page still describes twelve pictures. Ninety was the total across the connected parts of the town display at a particular stage in 2024.
With only 10-20 minutes, cross the overpass and return. For the longer route, continue along V. Borisevičiaus and Vytauto streets, allowing for works and locations to have changed. There is never a reason to enter railway land to complete the loop; use only public streets and the overpass.
Admission is free, but approach conditions and safety matter more than opening hours
The municipality's 2024 report described the outdoor gallery as open around the clock, while the dedicated attraction page lists neither booking nor admission. It is a public thoroughfare, so a brief visit requires no ticket desk. Temporary closure for bridge maintenance, exhibition changes, snow, or other works remains possible, and on-site signs take priority.
Official photographs show stairs and long ramp sections, but municipal planning documents for 2023-2025 included repairs to the southern ramp. No dependable new accessibility audit or completion notice had been found by 19 July 2026. Wheelchair users, people with pushchairs, and cyclists should check both approaches before setting out; the site coordinate is not a guarantee of a step-free route.
The overpass crosses an active railway. Stay behind the guardrails and mesh, never enter track land, do not lean on the displays, and do not let children climb the structure. The shared passage is narrow, so choose a quieter time for extended photography, yield to people crossing, and walk a bicycle beside the exhibits.
