ŠDG, Siauliai Art Gallery
A contemporary-art centre since 1992
Šiauliai Art Gallery was founded in 1992. It presents artists from Šiauliai alongside Lithuanian and international creators, organises thematic surveys and solo exhibitions, and gives younger artists room for experimental work. It operates as a municipal budget institution.
Temporary exhibitions shape the visit, so older photographs rarely show what will be on view on your date. Media range from painting, printmaking and sculpture to photography, installation, video and interdisciplinary work.
Virus, REZUME and non-commercial cinema
The international contemporary-art festival Virus best demonstrates the gallery's interdisciplinary profile. Its programmes connect visual art with fashion, dance, theatre, literature, media, film and music. Photography festival REZUME continues the experimental direction of the media-art festival Enter, which ran from 2002 to 2023.
The gallery also hosts programmes from non-commercial film festivals, evenings of experimental, electronic, jazz and classical music, lectures, conferences and the Menopolis education project. Openings offer access to artists and curators, while ordinary hours are better for quiet individual viewing.
How to approach a changing exhibition
Read the introductory wall text, but do not force every work into a single explanation. Notice its material, scale, sound and relationship to the room, then return to the label for context.
Time-based video or sound work needs patience. With children, a concrete task such as finding a repeated colour, material or shape is often more productive than expecting the same attention span at every object. Check the exhibition description first if content suitability matters.
Opening hours, admission and pets
When checked on July 22, 2026, the gallery listed Tuesday-Friday hours of 10:00-18:00 and Saturday hours of 10:00-17:00, with public closure on Monday and Sunday. Tickets were sold at the desk with card payment available. Openings and Saturday visits by families with children under sixteen were free. Prices and closures between exhibitions can change, so verify them again.
The official FAQ does not publish a general adult admission price, so a charge advertised for one concert or workshop should not be treated as the normal exhibition ticket. It describes the gallery as pet-friendly. An animal must remain controlled and away from artworks and other visitors.
The main facade has entrance steps, while the official FAQ does not describe a complete step-free route or adapted toilet. If wheelchair access, a lift or other assistance matters, ask the gallery for the current route from the street to the exhibitions. Photography depends on the artist and exhibition: avoid flash, never touch a work and ask staff before filming.
