Molėtai lakes walk, Walking route around the lakes
A shoreline network rather than one signed loop
The map marker by a jetty near Inturkės Street is representative, not a single trailhead. Paths, street crossings and bridges join both lakes, so several starting points are possible and distance depends on the loop chosen.
Decide whether to circle both lakes or take a shorter sculpture-park-to-beach section. Mapping services do not show every path consistently; remain on public routes and do not close the loop through private plots.
What you see around Pastovis and Pastovėlis
Water remains close through much of the walk, with jetties, open lawns, mature trees and town views across the lake. The sculpture park supplies a clear cultural stop, while Pastovis beach becomes the busiest summer area.
These are urban lakes rather than remote protected wilderness. Everyday town sounds and recreation are visible, but that close relationship between Molėtai and water makes the route easy without a car.
Surfaces and accessibility vary
Some sections are paved and gentle; elsewhere there is natural ground, timber, slopes or narrow shoreline. A short accessible section does not prove that the entire circuit suits a wheelchair or pushchair.
Timber and earth become slippery after rain. High water or maintenance can affect sections. A new Pastovis recreation project is underway in 2026-2027, so temporary works are possible.
Combining the walk with swimming
Allow 1.5-3 hours. Swim only at the designated beach and check current seasonal water-quality and safety notices. A convenient informal access point is not automatically a monitored bathing place.
The route is free and has no fixed hours. Bring light after dark, cyclists should yield on boardwalks, and never walk onto lake ice merely because the shore path is snowy.
