J. Lingys Park, Lingys Park
Almost two hectares in the town centre
Šakiai planning documents give Juozas Lingys Park an area of about 1.95 hectares. It is compact yet varied, combining tree shade, walking routes and active-recreation zones for either a short circuit or a longer pause.
Municipal renewal material records paths, lighting, children's play areas, benches and bins. The cycle track changes the park's rhythm, so walkers should watch crossings and keep the riding line clear.
Who was Juozas Lingys?
The park is named after choreographer Juozas Lingys. Born in 1919, he directed the state song-and-dance ensemble Lietuva from 1946 to 1981 and became one of the central creators of Lithuanian staged folk dance.
Lingys created more than 150 dances and choreographic compositions. The name therefore connects the town landscape to a figure who transformed folk movement material for the stage and shaped twentieth-century ensemble repertory.
What to do in the park
For a brief visit, make a circuit on the main paths and pause in the shade. Families use the play areas, while the cycle track is best approached with a helmet and only after checking that its surface is dry and unobstructed.
This is a useful stop between central Šakiai landmarks, not an enclosed museum. There is no required direction, but events can temporarily occupy parts of the grounds and everyone should respect other park users.
Hours, cost and responsible use
The park is open urban space without a ticket office or museum timetable. Times for individual events, attractions or organised activities can change, so check Šakiai District Municipality's current notices before a special trip.
Protect planting, take litter away and supervise children near the cycle track. Use lit paths after dark, and avoid active equipment when ice or a wet surface makes it unsafe.
