A new Panevėžys landmark
Stasys Museum, officially the Stasys Eidrigevičius Arts Centre and shortened to STASYS, is one of Panevėžys's newest and most visible cultural sites. The museum opened to the wider public at the end of May 2024, and its core is work donated by internationally recognised artist Stasys Eidrigevičius: posters, graphic art, masks, and painting.
The centre occupies a reconstructed former cinema building on Respublikos Street. The idea grew from a 2016 agreement between Panevėžys City Municipality and the artist, and construction was financed by the European Regional Development Fund together with state, municipal, and private funds. A city known for graphic-art tradition gained a contemporary space dedicated to it.
Who Stasys Eidrigevičius is
Stasys Eidrigevičius was born in 1949 in Mediniškiai village, Panevėžys County. VLE presents him as a Lithuanian artist who graduated from Kaunas Applied Arts Technical School and the then Lithuanian Art Institute, and who has lived and worked in Warsaw since 1980. He has held about one hundred solo exhibitions worldwide and is considered one of the leading masters of poster and graphic art.
His work is recognisable through expressive faces, masks, and solitary figures. Eidrigevičius works across many fields, from ex libris and book illustration to large-format posters and installations, so the museum exhibition allows visitors to see a rare whole by one author.
Building and architecture
The museum building was designed by the winning architectural team in a competition; its white, monumental yet restrained volume became a new city accent. Exhibition spaces are arranged across several floors, and a separate visitor favourite is the roof terrace, which opens a panorama of Panevėžys.
The debut exhibition presented the artist's work across several floors and an outdoor installation, bringing together poster, graphic art, painting, and spatial objects. The connection between architecture and content makes the visit an experience of contemporary museology as well as art.
How to visit
Stasys Museum operates in central Panevėžys on Respublikos Street, so it is easy to reach on foot with other city sites. Visitors can see permanent and changing exhibitions, educational activities, and guided tours.
Opening hours and ticket prices change, so information found during research should be checked on the official museum page before travelling. One visit usually takes 1-1.5 hours; on a clear day, make time for the roof terrace and city views.
