Uolynas Hill valley and a community trail
Skaistgirys Barefoot Trail is set in the Uolynas Hill valley beside Draugystės Street. The official Joniškis regional description presents it as a wellness and nature-learning trail created by the local community, while the valley is being developed as Birds Valley with nature-themed wooden sculptures.
This is more than a narrow foot-sensory strip. The valley also offers children's play areas, resting places and an observation tower, making the trail suitable for a short family outing or a slower walk through Skaistgirys's green public space.
A foot massage made from natural surfaces
The central experience is walking over natural surfaces with different textures. Pebbles, sand, wood and other nature-based materials place a different load on the feet from a smooth pavement, so walk slowly, try short sections and stop immediately if a surface feels wrong.
After rain the surfaces can be slippery, and wood fragments or stones are uneven. Keep shoes within reach, inspect each section before stepping and do not let children run barefoot without looking, even if the previous section was soft.
Wooden birds and a renewed Uolynas Hill
The valley's character comes from its many wooden bird sculptures. The Joniškis District Municipality 2023 activity report records that the barefoot trail on Uolynas Hill was renovated, a carved sculpture-seat-photo wall was installed, and the municipality worked with the local community on a Uolynas Hill environment project.
The sculptures are more than decoration: they help visitors orient themselves and invite children to notice the landscape. Photograph them without trampling vegetation, do not climb on the artworks and leave the wooden setting ready for the next visitor.
Semigallian views and night lighting
The valley and its viewpoints open towards the Semigallian plain and the landscape of nearby dolomite quarries. This open horizon contrasts with the wooded trail, so do more than test the surfaces and climb towards the tower if conditions allow.
The official description mentions solar-powered night lighting. That does not guarantee that every section will always be brightly lit: after darkness, poor weather or maintenance, conditions may differ, so only walk after dark if the route feels safe.

No permanent ticket price, reservation system or tourism-season opening hours have been published. This is an outdoor community space, but it is not fully step-free because of the hill, steps, uneven surfaces and natural setting, so visitors with mobility needs should assess the route in advance.
