Villa Linksma
Villa Linksma as a resort landmark
Druskininkai City Museum operates in Villa Linksma, which stands by Lake Druskonis, close to the town centre and church. The official museum calls the building one of the most frequently photographed objects in Druskininkai, and the reason is clear: the villa, water, and resort park form a strong image of the town.
The building is more than an attractive background. It lets visitors read Druskininkai as a resort where architecture, treatment, leisure, culture, and public representation have long been connected. The old resort centre is an urban monument, and Villa Linksma is one of its clearest witnesses of wooden resort architecture.
The resort history of Druskininkai in one story
The museum presents the history of the Druskininkai resort, iconographic and archival material, old postcards, objects bearing the Druskininkai mark, photographs, and stories of town culture. This helps explain how the resort built its image. According to VLE, the healing properties of the mineral springs were noticed in the eighteenth century; in 1830 Vilnius scholars studied Druskininkai waters; in 1837 the resort establishment plan was approved; and in 1838 a government treatment facility with 12 baths was founded.
The official museum emphasizes that this is the only coherent resort-history exhibition in the town. It is therefore a good first stop if you want to see not only spas and water attractions, but also the history of Druskininkai - from nineteenth-century wooden villas and treatment facilities to the interwar period, when the resort drew about 10,000 patients each year.
Events, terrace, and Lake Druskonis
The museum is not only a permanent exhibition. Its halls host events, concerts, meetings, and conferences, while outdoor spaces are used in the warm season. This fits the resort tradition: Druskininkai has always been a place for both treatment and cultural leisure.
After the museum, walk around the shore of Lake Druskonis. The museum's story immediately shifts into the real resort landscape, and from the lake it is easy to reach the M. K. Čiurlionis memorial home and the town centre.
Opening hours, tickets, and visiting
At the time of research, the official museum stated that exhibitions were open Monday-Sunday 10:00-18:00, on the eve of state holidays 10:00-17:00, and closed on state holidays. The adult ticket was 5 EUR, the reduced ticket 3 EUR, and a combined museum-and-gallery adult ticket 6 EUR. Check the official information before travelling.
Allow about an hour for the museum, and more if you include the gallery, an event, or a walk by Lake Druskonis. The museum is especially convenient on a rainy day because the exhibition and villa are indoors.
