Public holiday calendar for 2027
Work is generally not performed on the public holidays listed in Labour Code Article 123. In 2027 these cover 16 calendar dates. The table is a reference for holiday dates; an individual employee’s rest days depend on their working-time arrangements and schedule.
The holiday list and calendar dates were checked on 21 October 2026. This calendar uses the sources available at that review. Before making decisions about work or annual leave, check the current Labour Code and your own schedule.

How movable dates are determined
The law lists Easter Sunday and Monday according to the Western Christian tradition. In 2027 these fall on 28 and 29 March; Easter Sunday was checked against the Lithuanian Catholic liturgical calendar. Easter dates in other Christian traditions do not change this statutory list.
Mother’s Day in Lithuania falls on the first Sunday in May, and Father’s Day on the first Sunday in June. In 2027 these dates are 2 May and 6 June. They follow the Labour Code rule rather than another country’s holiday calendar.
Public holidays, rest days and weekends
Labour Code Article 124 defines a rest day as a day without work under the applicable working-time arrangements; Sunday is the common rest day. A public holiday and your own day off therefore do not always coincide. Shift work or aggregated working-time accounting may involve a different schedule from a standard five-day working week.
The State Labour Inspectorate explains that a holiday coinciding with a rest day does not automatically create an additional day off on the next working day. For example, Žolinė on Sunday 15 August 2027 does not itself make Monday 16 August a public holiday.
Working on a public holiday generally requires the employee’s consent, with exceptions under the Labour Code, such as aggregated working-time accounting or cases covered by a collective agreement. Ask the State Labour Inspectorate about a specific schedule, pay or entitlement; this page does not assess individual employment situations.
A shorter working day on the eve of a public holiday
The State Labour Inspectorate explains that a scheduled working day on the eve of a public holiday is shortened by one hour. Employees with a statutory reduced working-time norm are exempt. Part-time employment alone does not create this exception.
Longer breaks in 2027
If you work Monday to Friday and have Saturday and Sunday off, these longer breaks arise without additional annual leave: 1–3 January, 27–29 March, 30 October–2 November and 24–26 December. The first, second and fourth breaks each last 3 days; the third lasts 4 days.
16 February and 6 July fall on Tuesdays, while 11 March and 24 June fall on Thursdays. The intervening Monday or Friday does not automatically become a day off. Arrange any extra leave for a longer trip separately according to your work schedule.

The traditions calendar and travel planning
For customs, festival meanings and the annual cycle, see the ethnographic calendar. It also covers occasions such as Užgavėnės, which are not separate non-working holidays under Labour Code Article 123.
For travel on a public holiday, check the opening hours of the specific museum or attraction and the transport operator’s timetable. A holiday list does not establish that every venue is closed or that transport follows its usual schedule.
